Everyone has a life story. What’s yours?
The MWS life story began in 1981 with the desire to empower the disadvantaged and distressed in Singapore to have life to the full. This has since inspired thousands of stories of empowerment from our beneficiaries, donors, volunteers, staff and partners. Among them, a 92- year-old volunteer who has been sharing joy with other elderly for 40 years. A doctor who learnt valuable life lessons from the wisdom of the elderly sick whom he cared for. An MWS staff and mother of a special needs child...

Kit Chan is one of Singapore’s most established and multi-faceted artistes. Since her debut in 1993, she has released albums in Mandarin, Cantonese and English; and proven herself in diverse areas including musical theatre, TV drama, movies, poetry, creative direction and community work.
A dynamic performer, Kit has taken her performances to many parts of Asia. Back home, she is perhaps most loved for the song “Home” which she first performed at the 1998 NDP, and which has earned her the title of “National Treasure”.
Kit had a long and complex relationship with God, who eventually led her home. It took her many years to know that there’s a time for everything, and to trust that God is the only one who is truly in charge.
After 50 years in an industry where longevity is usually measured in years rather than decades, Frances Yip is still seeking new goals and setting new standards. She has recorded over 80 albums, participated in three feature films and appeared in stage musicals, performing in over 30 countries across five continents, in concerts and on television.
Her signature tune “Shanghai Beach”, the theme song from a television series of the same name made in 1980 has been possibly the best-known Cantonese song for nearly four decades among Chinese in communities all over the world.
3.The TENG Ensemble
TENG is a leading not-for-profit Singaporean arts company that re-imagines the possibilities of Chinese music. Founded in 2004, the company comprises a collective of music educators, scholars and award-winning instrumentalists. TENG’s work draws its influence from the East and the West; and the traditional and the contemporary. 鼟 (pronounced ‘tēng’) – as one of the most complex characters in the Chinese language – is an ancient Chinese representation for the sound of a drum. It is a symbol of TENG’s aspiration to bring cultures together and nurture future generations of musicians and audiences in Chinese music.
