This workshop will trace the development of Bel Canto in Western vocal music, covering its unique techniques, styles, interpretations and performances, while also covering differences in the styles of the three great Bel Canto composers in Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti.

Dr. Jessica Chen
Dr. Jessica Chen Hsing An was the First Prize winner of both the Asia Vocal Competition and Malaysia International Vocal Competition and also currenlty serves as the Head of Vocal Studies at the School of Music in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Dr. Chen has sung the roles of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Turandot in Turandot, Aida in Aida, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and Old Prioress in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. Her concert repertoire includes Bach's Magnificat, Handel's Judas Maccabaeus, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mahler's Symphony No.2 Resurrection, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Rutter’s Magnificat and Verdi’s Requiem.
