Multi-platinum rock band, Daughtry is making their way back to the sunny island for their first full concert as part of their World Tour’s Asia stops.Daughtry is formed by Chris Daughtry, the finalist for American Idol, fifth season and they have become one of the most visible and consistent rock & roll torchbearers of the 21st Century. They released four albums, all of which reached the Billboard Top Ten and have combined sales over 8 million copies in the U.S.Daughtry’s self-titled debut was the best-selling album of 2007, which contained four Top Twenty hit singles including the Grammy-nominated smash “It’s Not Over.” Leave This Town also reached Number One in 2009, while 2011’s Break the Spell was certified gold. The fan base really keeps us alive. That’s the key ingredient to keeping a band together—that’s the gasoline, and without it you can’t run.” On 30th March 2018, Daughtry released their new single ‘Backbone’ the lead single from their upcoming fifth studio album.Don't miss your chance to see Daughtry live at Singapore Zepp@Bigbox on Wednesday, 11th July 2018.
Dialogues of the Carmelites
Would you die for your faith?Standing before the guillotine, eyes blinded by stare of the merciless sun, ears deafened by the cries of the crowd. They scream for your death. Your death. You take another step. Your breath, cold against the hot summer air, is quick and ragged. Fear creeps down your spine as your sisters are silenced right in front of your eyes, one by one. Their song ended abruptly by the sharp kiss of metal on flesh. Their life poured to the ground like a dark velvet river. To surrender blood and tears for something you believe in.Could you die for your faith? You lean forward. The collar fits like a lover’s soft fingers around your neck. A breath. The soft whisper of the blade as rushes to you.Silence.New Opera presents…The Dialogues of the Carmelites. Sung in English.
Doa Buat Kekasih Concert
There are not many artistes able to bridge generations with their craft.Amongst this small but revered group of artistes, Ramli Sarip is the self-deprecating icon of several generations of music lovers. His fans span races and religions, from Malaysia to Brunei and Singapore to Indonesia. The boy from the kampong who claims humbly to “have very little talent” has grown to become the rocking Datuk. His gravelly voice is emotionally loaded whether he is singing about life lessons, divine providence or about aspects of love. The universality of his song has endeared him to various segments of society, to whom he is fondly known as Papa Rock.In nearly half-a-century in the music industry, Ramli has written and performed songs that explore life and living, evolving his craft along the way. From hard rock, his music may have mellowed as he finds himself walking in step with a greater cause. But while the melodies may be gentler, the messages, like his resolve, are still deeply meaningful.Since his time with Sweet Charity, the hard-rocking band he formed, playing in small gigs before hitting the larger circuits, and then rising to prominence as a solo artist, Ramli has constantly employed a work ethic that promoted the whole rather than the one. This is evident in his concerts, where he fills halls and allows a variety of musicians and styles to support his music, while allowing the individual to shine in their own right. His affable demeanour and willingness to chat over a teh tarik and a curry puff helps to cut across barriers. This approach is particularly helpful when it comes to collaborations with other artistes, which is also key to Ramli’s willingness to explore new facets of music. While many have enjoyed his duets with Ella, Datuk M. Nasir, and Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, there is one song that has endeared and endured.Doa Buat Kekasih, performed originally with Khadijah Ibrahim in 1988 has been reinterpreted numerous times in the last 30 years. It’s a tribute to the song’s central theme — Pray For Love — that people are constantly looking to connect with each other, and love is a strong bond for humanity. The song about breaking up but retaining friendship is particularly poignant in this day and age of fleeting connections. It obviously resonates with audiences, and is a sing-along favourite at his concerts.Doa Buat Kekasih came to be during the ’80s era of power ballads, in particular the Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes hit Up Where We Belong. In the upcoming Doa Buat Kekasih 30th Anniversary Tour, the song takes on a new perspective. Proceeds form the concert are being donated to Ain Society, a charity that raises funds for cancer patients. While supporting a noble cause, Doa Buat Kekasih is also presenting the opportunity for fans to see the original stars come together after many years to show how friendships and love can transcend time and generations.
Advisory: There will be strobe lighting used for this performance.Annually, the tiny dragonfly migrates over 14,000km in search of a place to lay its eggs. In contrast, the human race struggles to embrace its nomadic heritage. The year is 2021 and climate change is wreaking havoc across the globe. Like the coastline around him, Leslie Chen’s life, as he knows it, is crumbling to dust. Forced to abandon his home in England, he has no choice but to move his family to his birthplace, Singapore. Returning to a country that is worlds apart from the one he grew up in, Leslie starts to question the meaning of home. Dragonflies is a story of a family fighting for survival in a hostile world; looking for somewhere to call home and something that looks like hope. Starring Adrian Pang, Tan Kheng Hua, Fanny Kee, Benjamin Chow, Frances Lee, Elizabeth Morse, Matt Grey, Jamil Schulze, and Shona Benson. Directed by Tracie Pang. Written by Stephanie Street. Dragonflies was commissioned by Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2017 and marked its debut there with a sold-out run. It returns by popular demand to the Pangdemonium 2018 Season and is nominated in eight categories at the 2018 Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards including Best Script and Production of the Year.

New Music strains its neck to look back at the Past: a Shakespearean squall, verses scribbled by bored mediaeval clerics, one lullaby retrieved from a Winter’s day . . .A performance by an uncommon two-headed creature. Singapore’s own SYC Ensemble Singers meets the acclaimed Vancouver-based Turning Point Ensemble, meets voices, winds, strings and percussion, meets God and Man, meets continent and island, meets Love and Death, meets faraway and nearby.Showcasing the work of Canadian composers, the programme includes Owen Underhill’s suite for instrumental ensemble and choir A Middle English Songbook (2007), Alexina Louie’s A Curious Passerby At Fu’s Funeral (2015), and Rita Ueda’s triple-movement yuki ya kon (2017)—an unmissable lineup of contemporary music reinventing the ensemble format.
