"This play encourages teenagers to think about how they want to live their lives. And what is truly important in this ever-changing (COVID) world."– Samantha Scott-Blackhall, Director
This play addresses many pressing and important issues affecting teenagers today, including:
- The need for community and ‘in-person’ relationships, especially in a COVID world
- Teens that live in a cyber world and the negative effects it has on one’s ability to connect to others
- Social anxiety and social withdrawal that may discourage a lower level of intimacy and sense of companionship in young people’s friendships
- Mental wellness amongst teenagers who isolate themselves (in their rooms/homes) and rely on the internet, social media, games, Google as their primary source of external connection
- The coming-of-age for an iGen
- Identifying and then fighting for your dreams and passions
Held in conjunction with I and You, “Decoding the Teenage Years” is a webinar targeted at parents, teachers and guardians about the psychological needs of tweens and teenagers, especially in this day and age. The ‘New Age’ challenges faced by youth, such as rapidly evolving digital environment (technology and social media), can be all-consuming. What can we do to keep our children safe? Our esteemed speaker, Clinical Psychologist Dr Carol Balhetchet, will share common anxieties amongst teens and share practical tips and strategies for effective communication.
Dr Carol Balhetchet is the author of Dr Delinquent: A Guide To Decoding The Teenage Years, published by Straits Time Press. In the 2018 book she uses a collection of real-life stories to decode and identify the issues underlying teenage behavior, looking at the factors that build up and come to a head.
