I, Frida is a funny, warm, and heartfelt story about a newcomer's journey to Canada, and her attempts at trying to fit into Canadian culture.
Written and performed by Yulissa Campos, I, Frida portrays a young activist's fight for immigrants' rights, while struggling with segregation, stereotypes, and her own traditions.
She feels like an outsider, despite the best intentions of those around her, until she finds inspiration from the two heroines in her life-her mother, and Frida Kahlo!

Ay, Caramba! Theatre exists to represent those without a voice, create inspiring stories that transcend cultural boundaries, and embrace diversity on a stage that is accessible to all.
As the first Latinx theatre in Saskatchewan, Canada, it seeks to create inclusive stories, inspire minority actors, and diversify Canadian theatre through Hispanic stories.
PRODUCER/PLAYWRIGHT/PERFORMER - YULISSA CAMPOS
Born in Ecuador, Yulissa Campos is a professional actress and emerging playwright who calls Canada her second home. She is the Artistic Producer/Creator of Ay, Caramb! Theatre. Yulissa debuted as a playwright with her short play Trapped in March 2019. She wrote, produced and performed Ay, Caramba Theatre's inaugural production I, Frida, at the 2019 Saskatoon Fringe Festival. She dedicates her work to her family and to all those warriors who left their motherland to look for a better life.
DIRECTOR/SOUND OPERATOR - ED MENDEZ
Ed Mendez is an actor, director, sketch comedian, puppeteer, and arts administrator, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He has been an arts professional for over a decade, and in that time has had the pleasure of working with most of the theatres in his hometown, attended various national and international festivals, and continues to learn from mentors both younger and older than himself. Ed is passionate about creating new works and inspiring the next generation of artists.
STAGE MANAGER/DESIGNER/TECHNICIAN – JUDITH SCHULZ
Judith Schulz (she/her) loves being a theatre practitioner in Saskatoon, Canada! Her favourite aspects of theatre are lighting, projection and set design, stage management, and directing. She is passionate about telling stories and making people think critically about the world around them. Recent credits includ: Playhouse Creatures - set design (Greystone Theatre), The Wolves - stage management (EvilStick Productions and littleBIG Theatre), Hospitals, Broken Pianos - lighting design (Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre (GTNT)), Paris, SK - projection design (GTNT), and Short Cuts Festival - digital production manager (Hardly Art Theatre).
STAGE MANAGER – BROOKLYNN BITNER
While finishing her BA in Studio Art, Brooklynn stumbled across the University of Saskatchewan’s Drama Design program, and instantly fell in love. Set, Costume, and Sound Design are her fortes, but she dabbles in projection and lighting design as well. With a passion for bringing technology and spectacle to live stage, Brooklynn wants to wow audiences with transformative, evolving, and dynamic designs that make the audience question their perception of reality.
