Celebrate this Mother‘s day by setting a date with popular Getai artistes Liu Ling Ling刘玲玲, Wang Lei 王雷,Sam Loo Wei Lun吕伟伦 and Angie Lau 刘心玲. Directed by Liu Ling Ling, this concert showcases the evolution of Getai with music performed by Ding Yi Music Company and conducted by Quek Ling Kiong 郭勇德. Travel back in time together with these artistes and learn more about the changes in Getai as this traditional art form adapts to the modern art scene. Be dazzled by the unique twist in Getai music as the Chinese Orchestra infuses some of their unique elements into the melody. Fans of Liu Ling Ling can even expect a never-seen-before segment arranged to showcase her love for her child, in-line with the theme of this concert! Liu Ling Ling, singer-host-actress, is known to many as the “Ah Jie” of the Getai scene. She is also a versatile actress and featured in many local TV productions as well as critically acclaimed films such as 881 and 12 Lotus which has brought her international fame. With more than 30 years of experience as a Getai performer, her hosting and performances have never failed to create the greatest impact on her audiences.
Wang Lei, singer-host-actor, has an unrivalled position as the “Ah Ge” or “big brother” of the Getai scene. He is most famously known for his impersonation of Taiwanese Hokkien Singer Chen Lei. Known for his quick-wittedness and great rapport with his audiences, Wang Lei performed at 147 shows in a single month at his peak. He has also featured in various films such as Where Got Ghost? and My Papa Rich.
Sam Loo is a flamboyant artiste that never fails to wow the audience! Recognised as one of the Top Ten Getai singers in Singapore, his performances never fail to bring laughter and joy to his audiences. As a nominee for 3 consecutive years for the best costume award by STOMP, Sam provides a dazzling alternative to his vocal prowess by captivating his audiences with a visual treat.
Angie Lau started her singing career at the tender age of seven and has a total of 7 recording albums under her belt. Her powerful vocal has made her the Cantopop Queen of Singapore in the 90’s. A veteran in the scene for 28 years, she has participated in numerous shows in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei.
Ding Yi Music Company is recognised as one of Singapore’s most prodigious Chinese chamber music ensembles. Ding Yi has won many accolades including champion at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfold held in UK. They have also represented Singapore in various international festivals with the most recent being Canberra International Music Festival, 2017. They are led by Principal guest conductor Quek Ling Kiong.
Quek Ling Kiong is the recipient of the National Arts Council’s (NAC) Singapore Young Artist Award (2002) and the NAC Cultural Fellowship (2013). He studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the NAC Overseas Scholarship, as well as the Lee Foundation and Singapore Hokkien Huay Kwan Scholarship. He is currently a Resident Conductor at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.
