Duan Aiai Erhu Solo Recital

A one-night concert with limited seats by world-class erhu soloist Duan Aiai performing all classic pieces.   Repertoires include 二泉映月、乔家大院 之 《爱情》、梁祝、我的祖国.

Duan Aiai is a national first-class artiste, an erhu soloist of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, President of the Erhu Committee of Shanghai Musicians’ Association, China Nationalities Orchestra Society Executive Council Member, Visiting Professor of the Xi’an Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai New York University (NYU).

She began learning the erhu at the age of six under Liu Yi’an and Professor Wang Yong De at the renowned Shanghai Music Conservatory (SMC). Duan graduated with high distinction in Chinese Music Performing
Arts degree from SMC. She was invited to join the renowned Shanghai Oriental Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra and later, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra as its Concert Master. Duan was extensively invited to perform solo and concerto by renowned festivals such as the China Arts Festival closing, Shanghai Spring Music International Festival opening, Shanghai International Arts Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival opening, World Broadcasting Day Festive
Concert, China Northeast Music Festival opening, China Symphony Music Festival closing, Taipei Traditional Arts Festival opening, China Huqin Festival opening concert, Best China erhu soloists concert, and the International Huqin Festival concert. In 2013, she was awarded the honorary title of the “March 8 Redbanner Pacesetter” for her outstanding achievements
by the Shanghai Women’s Federation.

Besides taking centre stage in renowned festivals, Duan has staged many solo concerts and talks with positive acclaim. Duan was extensively engaged to tour many countries and regions, performing as a soloist with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Macao Chinese Orchestra, Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan National Chinese Orchestra and Ningbo Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to her celebrated local and international engagements, Duan was involved in recording as soloist for television drama series, movies and large scale productions. Her discography includes solo albums and DVDs.

With her passion in sharing knowledge and music, she was invited to speak and adjudicate major Chinese musical instrumental competitions in China and beyond. She was invited to adjudicate the 2016 Singapore National Chinese Music Competition as one of the key adjudicators.

With her strong musical knowledge and vast array of performing techniques, Duan captivates audiences with her delicate and expressive playing, which exudes a natural artistic charm, unique insights and infectious melodies.
