Lushington Entertainments are thrilled to present the CHINA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and twelve-year-old violin prodigy PALOMA SO, conducted by MAESTRO LONG YU performing in Singapore for the first time - at the Esplanade Concert Hall for one very special evening on 26 November 2017 (Sunday).
They will present “Im Abendrot, aus Vier Letzten” (Richard Strauss), “Violin Concerto No.3 in B Minor, Op.58” (Camille Saint-Saëns), “Symphony No.6 in B Minor Op.74” (Tchaikovsky) and a very special encore. Tickets from $78 go on sale on 20 October 2017 via all SISTIC channels.
This performance is presented by CapitaLand Limited and supported by Hotel Properties Limited, NSL Ltd and The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.
Founded in 2000 and led by Long Yu, the CHINA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (CPO) has experienced exponential growth, becoming one of China’s top orchestras and a leading figure in Asia with an international reputation. The CPO was named among the ten most inspiring orchestras in the world by Gramophone in 2009. The CPO actively pursues innovative methods and platforms to promote classical music to a wider audience; in the last 16 years it has presented more than 3,000 compositions — many in their World and Chinese Premieres — in more than 1,000 performances before millions of audience members.
This will also be CPO’s first-ever performance in Singapore. Although they have never performed here, the orchestra does have strong links with Singapore in the classical music scene – Chen Yun, CPO’s Assistant Artistic Director was previously from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), while SSO’s Music Director Shui Lan has conducted the China Philharmonic Orchestra several times. One of Singapore’s most prolific young conductors, Wong Kah Chun also conducted the CPO in his first professional appearance in China. In addition, Singaporean maestro Choo Hoey, founder of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, will be collaborating with CPO for the first time in this 2017-2018 music season.
The preeminent Chinese conductor with an established international reputation, LONG YU is currently Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival and the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director of the Shanghai and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestras, the co-director of MISA Shanghai Summer Festival, and the principal guest conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
