String a Legacy
Min Lee, Singapore's internationally acclaimed violinist and her 12-year-old protégé Samuel Tan tell the story of STRING A LEGACY! This gala concert will see this extraordinary mentor-mentee pair in the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Samuel and the Wieniawski / Gounod Faust Fantaisie with Min. The Japanese mezzo soprano Seia Lee will sing operatic favourites from Bizet's Carmen. They will be presented alongside the Wolfgang Sinfonietta Orchestra, led by Maestro Juan Felipe Molano in their inaugural concert. The evening hits more high notes with 100 gifted young violinists and cellists of the Wolfgang Young Artists Orchestra playing Grieg’s Holberg Suite and their arrangement of Beethoven's Ode to Joy.Min Lee started playing the violin at 2 and at 14, was a graduate student at Yale University. Performances include the Philharmonia Orchestra, London, Royal Philharmonic, the NHK, the Russian National, Vienna Chamber, San Diego Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic, Adelaide Symphony and the HK Philharmonic with conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, Jahja Ling and Mikhail Pletnov,.Fast forward 20 years, Samuel Tan started playing the violin at 3. Min Lee took him under her mentorship at 6. He soon scored the Outstanding Performer Award at the National Violin Competition in Singapore at 8, and 1st Prize and the Grand Laureate Prize at the Andrea Postacchini Competition in Italy at 9. Last year, Classic FM in London included Samuel in their list of “Astonishing Child Prodigies”.A CONCERT NOT TO BE MISSED!Music and the arts is an enduring legacy and Min believes that every child should have equal access. Therefore, all nett proceeds will go towards The Business Times Budding Artists Fund to nurture the artistic talents of disadvantaged children and youth in Singapore.

Under the direction of Music Director Mr Zhang Yu Ming and conductor Moses Gay, the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra proudly presents Con Brio V. The concert will feature a series of highly challenging orchestral and concerto pieces.Renowned erhu master Zhang Yu Ming will be leading the orchestra as soloist for signature piece Night Thoughts. Joining us as erhu soloist, Singapore Chinese Orchestra musician Xu Wen Jing will be performing the erhu concerto Sketches of Xinjiang composed by Wang Yue Ming. The orchestra will also be presenting large-scale compositions such as A Va Mountain by Guo Wen Jing and Memories by Liu Chang Yuan. Also featured in this concert is prize-winning Chinese string quintet StringWerkz, and many more young musicians who have won awards at the National Chinese Music Competition organised by National Arts Council.Established in 2001, the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra and its members have won significant accolades in local and international competitions. With the support of the Toa Payoh West Community Club and Music Director Zhang Yu Ming, the orchestra seeks to nurture generations of young passionate music talents.由音乐总监张玉明精心策划，青年指挥家倪恩辉指挥，大巴窑西民众俱乐部华乐团将在《精音绽放 V - 传承》音乐会里呈现一系列具高难度的曲目。在本场演出，二胡大师张玉明先生将会演奏经典曲目，同时也邀请新加坡华乐团著名二胡演奏家许文静演绎王月明创作的二胡协奏曲《新疆素描》。乐团也将呈现荣获国际大奖的五重奏小组及在新加坡艺术理事会全国华乐比赛历届获大奖的青年演奏家为大家演奏重奏、协奏、独奏和大型华乐合奏作品。曲目包括《夜深沉》、《蓝色星球-地球》、《三门峡畅想曲》、《第一二胡狂想曲》、《阿佤山》、《忆》等。成立于2001年的大巴窑西民众俱乐部华乐团，在大巴窑西民众俱乐部的支持和音乐总监张玉明先生的带领下培养了许多杰出的青年音乐人才，从建团以来参与的历届全国小合奏比赛都是冠亚军获得者，是在国际国内具有很高声望的新加坡精英华乐团。
