City Chinese Orchestra Presents: Af...
City Chinese Orchestra presents an evening of evocative tunes and familiar Chinese orchestral classics. Aptly titled Affinity, the orchestra returns after a three-year break to collaborate once more with the Man Han Opera Theatre (Inner Mongolia) for a one-evening only concert of Chinese tunes, folk songs, and opera pieces.Acclaimed Man Han opera vocalists Ding Ba Te and Zhang Feng Lian, will take the stage together with accomplished Singaporean erhu soloist Wang Guiying and guzheng sololist Yin Qun to perform favourites such as The Butterfly Lovers Concerto, Rendezvous at the Yurt and The Moon on the Fifteenth. Musicians from the Man Han Opera Theatre will also present popular folk songs such as A Joyful Reunion in Er Ren Tai – an opera style popular among the people of Inner Mongolia. The evening’s repertoire also includes familiar pieces by saxophonist Guo Min and Horse Head Fiddle musician Men De, such as Mother in my Dreams and Galloping Horses.The concert will be conducted by Cultural Medallion recipient and president of the Singapore Chinese Music Federation, Dr Tay Teow Kiat. A steadfast presence in the local Chinese music scene, City Chinese Orchestra has been presenting innovative and evocative Chinese music to local and regional audiences for more than forty years.
