Overture to Holidays
A rare chance to experience a trio of voice, string and piano will take you on a musical journey on November 28th at the Esplanade's Recital Studio. Violinist Siew Yi Li and pianist Beatrice Lin will create, together with soprano Sérine de Labaume, a delightful evening full of inviting and eclectic music not so often heard in Singapore. From intense and erudite compositions of Camille Saint-Saëns and Frank Bridge to more popular approaches by Luigi Denza and Eldo di Lazzaro, the programme presents a wide range of music from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Approachable and melodious music takes a big part of the evening's programme: Serenades and Romances by Diémer, Braga, Anton, Tosti... to name a few. After the intermission, Latin/Spanish flair in full swing, the audience will be treated to Berlioz's Bolero, Viardot's Habanera and Piazzolla’s Tango among others. The programme doesn't consist of only less-known pieces. Some very popular pieces such as Sarasate's 'Romanza Andalusa' and Gardel's 'Por una Cabeza' will also be heard. Many of the pieces were written by the composers for this not-as-often-interpreted combination of string, voice and piano. A few were arranged by the musicians for this concert, and some remain duo as intended. Some melancholic, some exhilarating, and some, simply charming, this romantic and emotion (and surprise)-full programme promises an enchanting evening for music aficionados as well as first-time concert goers.

SQUEEZE - Live in Singapore
LAMC Productions is psyched to announce that iconic British new wave band, SQUEEZE will perform in Singapore, as part of their upcoming tour, on Friday, 4 May, 2018 at University Cultural Centre, NUS!The band are currently in the studio recording the follow up to 2015’s critically acclaimed ‘Cradle to the Grave’ which was written as a soundtrack to Danny Baker’s BBC TV sitcom ‘Cradle To Grave’ (starring Peter Kay).Yolanda, an accomplished session musician who has toured with the likes of Paul Weller, Eric Clapton and Hans Zimmer tells us “I’m so excited to be invited to play with Squeeze. The guys were a pleasure to record the new album with and I know playing the live shows will be a fantastic experience.” Steve, lead singer of Grammy award-winning electronica act Dirty Vegas, has previously supported Glenn Tilbrook on tour and has a deep personal connection with the band’s music, saying “I don't know how many musicians get the chance of a lifetime to join the very first band that they ever went to see in concert. I was fifteen went I first saw this band, now I get to be part of an incredible line up, who are not only great musicians but lovely human beings too.”“A crowd on their feet sang back new songs as though they were decades-old classics. *****” – The TimesSqueeze first formed in 1973, shortly after Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook had begun their songwriting partnership, brought together by an ad in a sweetshop window. By 1977 they had made their recording debut and enjoyed a string of hits which lasted until 1982, the maturity of their songs outliving their initial burst of chart activity on the back of New Wave. Over the years there have been solo careers and occasional separations, but the Ivor Novello Award-winning songwriting duo Chris and Glenn reunited ten years ago to relaunch Squeeze and have been touring, writing and recording together since. The band has long been a captivating live act, and this year triumphed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury with The Guardian saying they “[went] down a storm… Squeeze’s success is a pretty infectious thing” and Acoustic magazine concluding that “they don’t have the bombastic hype of headliners Coldplay, but they have the songcraft and lyrical majesty to leave the headliners in the dust which they duly did.”“Difford and Tilbrook deliver a rousing reminder of their talent for tuneful and touching glimpses of everyday life. ****” – Live review, The GuardianAs well as a vast catalogue including hits such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’ and ‘Tempted’, they also have Cradle To The Grave to draw on, their first collection of new tracks since 1998. This album marked the complete and, frankly, triumphant reintegration of the masterful songwriting axis of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, in a beautifully-observed series of fond vignettes about childhood, growing up and the absurdities of the ride through life we’re all on.The album was written as a soundtrack to Danny Baker’s BBC TV sitcom ‘Cradle To Grave’ which starred Peter Kay. The lyrics were based on his autobiography about growing up in South London in the 1970s ‘Going To Sea In A Sieve’, which Chris and Glenn could relate to from their own experiences. The current line-up will feature founder member Glenn Tilbrook, long-standing touring members Stephen Large & Simon Hanson, and the new addition of bassist Yolanda Charles and Steve Smith on percussion.
