The MANdolin & Beyond 2019
The MANdolin & Beyond is an Arte Compass initiative started in 2016 as a tribute to the Legendary Mandolin Maestro U. Shrinivas (28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014). Late Maestro Padma Shri U. Shrinivas the rarest of musical geniuses, embodied the change that stretched beyond time and boundaries, fusing Indian classical music with other forms of world music. He was also regarded as the Mozart of classical Indian music.The phenomenal success of the first edition inspired Arte Compass to make this an annual Tribute to the MAN who continues to inspire us. The 4th edition of Mandolin & Beyond in 2019 will also be a significant concert to mark the 50th Birth Anniversary of Shri U. Shrinivas. The event is on Saturday, 2nd March, 2019 7:30pm at Esplanade Concert Hall.The 2019 edition will be a musical concert with a mix of Classical, Contemporary & Fusion by an ensemble of world class musicians celebrating the legacy of U. Shrinivas. Featuring some of the world’s renowned musicians with whom the late Maestro U. Shrinivas has collaborated with namely, his brother U. Rajesh (Mandolin), Purbayan Chatterjee (Sitar), Ustad Fazal Qureshi (Tabla), Stephen Devassy (Keyboard), Pete Lockett (Drums) along with Vijay Prakash (Vocals).Presented by Integr8 Fuels DMCC, this Event is brought to you by ARTE COMPASS PTE LTD, in association with AGROCORP INTERNATIONAL & SHRINIVAS INSTITUTE OF WORLD MUSIQUE (SIOWM), Chennai. U Shrinivas set up SIOWM where he identified talented students and provided complementary training. His legacy at SIOWM is continued by his younger brother, Mandolin Maestro U Rajesh. The event is also supported by the High Commission of India, Singapore.

Mobbs and Porter will lead participants through explorations of Arvo Pärt’s The Deer’s Cry and William Byrd’s Laudibus in sanctis.About Charlotte MobbCharlotte Mobb enjoys a career as a soloist and ensemble singer performing with many of the UK’s best conductors all over the world. Solo performances include Bach’s St Matthew Passion at Cadogan Hall, Magnificat and various cantatas at the Royal Festival Hall under Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Handel’s Messiah at The Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Festival Hall under David Hil,l and James MacMillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Charlotte has been the soloist for Harry Christophers in Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Bach’s Mass in B minor and Magnificat, Handel’s Acis and Galatea and Dixit Dominus, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, and features on many of the group’s recordings.Charlotte is very passionate about helping young singers and is vocal coach for The Sixteen’s own training scheme, Genesis Sixteen. She also teaches singing in courses for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and is an adjudicator for the Leith Hill Music Festival.About Kim PorterKim Porter studied music at Manchester University before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a postgraduate singer and composer. Her first professional work was a full-time position as an alto in the BBC Singers. She is now a member of The Sixteen and leads workshops for them with choristers all around the UK. She also coaches young singers on The Sixteen’s Genesis Sixteen courses.Kim also sings with the Gabrieli Consort and Ora, an ensemble performing new commissions inspired by much older music and for whom she composed Pulchra Es, due to be released next year.

Come witness the superb singing powers of Yu Tian 余天 and Li Ya Ping 李亚萍, husband and wife team, who had been in the entertainment industry since the 70s, for a one night only concert at the Resorts World Theatre. Yu Tian, veteran singer-host, started his career in 1964 as a singer and host in the highly rated TV programme 群星会 and his 1977 signature song 榕树下, a Mandarin cover version of a Japanese song that remained popular throughout the 80s and is still a hit after all these years. Yu Tian had sung many hit songs such as 舞台, 又是黄昏, 一个陌生的女孩, 不如归去, 汪洋中的一条船, 一曲寄知音, 山南山北走一回 and more. Besides singing, Yu Tian also hosted many TV programmes such as 综艺兵团, 天天星期天, 台湾的歌, 台湾开心秀, 王牌点唱秀, 冠军点唱秀, 三星报喜, 王牌双响炮, 天生王牌 and the recent 黄金年代. Known across the world for her powerful voice and perfect pitch, Lea Salonga is a singer and actress who is best known for her Tony Award-winning role in Miss Saigon. In addition to the Tony, she has won the Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards, in the field of musical theatre. She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the beloved show as Fantine in the 2006 revival. Many fans of all ages recognise Lea as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Fa Mulan for Mulan and Mulan II. For her portrayal of the beloved princesses, the Walt Disney Company bestowed her with the honour of Disney Legend in August 2011.Lea most recently starred in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island as the Goddess of Love, Erzulie, and also serves as a judge on The Philippines hit version of The Voice.
