Noordpool Orkest first Asian Tour presented by Axentika Events & Global Entertainment Production.

Hailing from the obscure region of Drachten Northern Netherlands, Noordpool Orkest is an orchestral congregation of woodwinds and strings consisting of 42 professional musicians playing new light music. It was founded in 2010 by the Groningen composer Reinout Douma, who is also the band’s artistic director, general manager and pianist.

Born in 1974, Reinout started playing the piano at 4 years old. He has played with many reputable and high-calibre musicians, such as Ed Kowalczyk, Waylon, Bert Visscher and Laura Jansen, to name a few. The maestro has also spread his wings far and wide across countries to share his love and creations for orchestral music. In 2009, Reinout started working on his dream of assembling a big professional jazz and pop orchestra. Hence, Noordpool Orkest was formed. They officially started in 2010 after two successful concerts.

Noordpool Orkest’s experiences and skills in playing Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, Drum & Bass, Chanson, Blues, Kleinkunst & Cabaret is a guaranteed proof of their versatility and flexibility. This is evident in their studio works and recorded live performances. They have also been involved in collaborations with various artists. Warm, lively, catchy, sweet or grandiose – the range of tunes and pieces is sure to be an absolute treat to your ears.

This 12 October, the Dutch orchestral act will jazz up the stage by delivering the melancholic tunes from an English rock band, Radiohead. Originating from Abingdon and formed in 1985 by Thom Yorke, Radiohead is no stranger to the global music arena. With hits like “Paranoid Android”, “Creep” and “Karma Police”, the award-winning band has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. They have gained a massive number of loyal fans from different parts of the world up till this day.

In 2012, Noordpool Orkest released an entire tribute album named “Radiohead, A Jazz Symphony” under Challenge Records, which comprises of 10 cover songs. Reinout has made special arrangements for this debut release by improvising on the music, going beyond numerous dimensions of other and older jazz styles.

Despite the absence of lyrics, the music was still commendable. The elements of melancholic chord progressions, unique rhythms and powerful ‘licks’ are valuable factors for a jazz musician. The album offers an atmospheric and almost lounge or film-like approach without compromising on the rock essences of the original music. It was eventually released in 34 countries.

Taking after the orchestra’s debut album title, this concert is set to be held at the Esplanade Concert Hall. For Radiohead fans, be sure to keep an open mind as you may be surprised just how well jazz suits Radiohead’s elaborate time signatures and harmonies. Be swayed by their dynamically improvised renditions of your favourite hits.

Audience can expect to be captivated by Noordpool Orkest’s unequivocal talent and commitment in delivering an unforgettable jazz orchestral performance.

Prepare your soul for a symphony of grand melodies to awaken your senses!

Organised by local event entrepreneurs Global Entertainment Production & Axentika Events Pte Ltd.Local performing bands include dynamic quartet The Pinholes - a class act in the vibrant Singapore music scene known for their classic Rock & Roll songs, mopish hairstyles & retro outfits recognise as the “Brown Beatles”, 3-piece alternative rock band Ambassador and the well-known surf punk rockers Force Vomit - recently hit the stage at Baybeats 2018 @ the Esplanade. MOTUS - an acronym for Movement On The Upside – will be the opening act for this festival. MOTUS is a collective of instrumentalists, percussionists and dancers with their own brand of samba funk. The 19-piece Batucada Pop ensemble has also recently performed at the Singapore Night Festival held in late August. As for the Malaysian counterpart, pop/alternative rock bands OAG and Hujan will serenade the audience with their catchy and upbeat tunes. Sir’iyai is a Bandung-based ska/reggae pop group with traditional “keroncong” influences noticeably projected in their songs. As for the latter, D’Masiv - the band’s name is frequently associated with other top Indonesian Artistes such as Ungu, Nidji, Noah & Rossa, thanks to the popularity of their songs, they are nominated as best duo / group for “Anugerah Planet Musik 2018, Singapore”This 11-hour festival is set to be held at the West Coast Park Grand Lawn.
