POND - Live in Singapore
LAMC Productions is thrilled to announce that psychedelic rock band, POND, will be bringing their tour to Singapore on Thursday, 23 November, 2017 at Esplanade Annexe Studio!''Pond's live show is comprised of spectacular moments... The psych-pop jesters spun old and new tunes into pure entertainment gold''. - San Francisco WeeklyOne of the West Coast's most exciting exports, Pond have cut their teeth over the years touring with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, MGMT and Flaming Lips. They have blown audiences away at some of the world's premier music festivals including Primavera, Coachella, South by Southwest, Laneway Festival, Splendour In The Grass and more, and have sold out countless venues around the globe from New York's Bowery Ballroom to Paris' La Gaite Lyrique and London's O2 Forum. Pond shares members with fellow Perth outfit Tame Impala, with frontman Nick Allbrook contributing to both acts until 2013 and Jay 'Gum' Watson still a member of both.Since the beginning, POND wrote music and produced records faster than a label could release them. POND followed up Psychedelic Mango within months, releasing Corridors of Blissterday, a frenzied effort recorded live with an eight-piece band in 2009. A year later, their third album Frond, a kaleidoscopic classic, dripping with funk and falsetto, loosely inspired by a diet consisting only of Prince and Fleetwood Mac, delighted audiences Australia-wide. Frond's release finally realised industry attention and praise, solidifying the band and their music in it's own right. Beard, Wives and Denim, their 4th album, was recorded on a farm a few hours South-West of Perth. Beard, Wives, Denim is a triumph of the eclecticism and good humor that drives POND.Upon Beard, Wives, Denim release in March 2012, global attention shined it's light upon the Perth gang. A North American tour ensued, smashing through 31 shows - including 8 at South by South West - where they were one of the most talked about bands of the festival. From there, they returned home to Australia and sold out a national tour before storming UK and Europe, causing NME to tout them as the ''hottest band in the world right now'' as well as proclaiming Beard, Wives, Denim as ''quite possibly the best album released so far this year.''''From sleazy rock excess, to introspective, cracked psychedelia and back again'' - FaderIn August 2013, POND gifted to the world their 5th LP in as many years, Hobo Rocket. Hobo Rocket is 40 minutes of perfectly imperfect emotion, challenging veteran listeners and music reviewers with an evolved and vigorous sound. Singer Nick Allbrook describes the release as the ''...kind of mindset of finding our own little place in music, and being more of a functioning band, which is what makes it noisier and denser. This one we went as brutally hard as we would at a show. We wanted the songs to sound loose and live.''Pond then went ahead to release their seventh LP, 'The Weather' in May 2017. The Weather is Pond's seventh long-player, their own baffled, if ever madcap barometric reading of the geo-political situation (amongst others), in mind-bendingly excellent album form.''Pond's new album mixes bright synths, campy detours, and grim lyrics... It's a document of a band knocking loudly on the door of greatness'' - PitchforkPerfectly measured in its lurching between moods, relevant in its synth-pop/guitar-psych balance, and bang on the money in its polemical anxieties, The Weather is the classic killer Pond album.Make sure you get down to Pond's Singapore show for infectiously funky highs, psych-rock grooves and some of the best live pop performances you'll

Singapore Writers Festival 2017 FES...
The Singapore Writers Festival is back with the theme, Aram. What are the meanings of being ''good''? Aram, a Tamil word, zeroes in on the universal ethical concept. A term with rich connotations, it exhorts us to ask tough questions regarding conscience, virtue, and societal values. On a fundamental level, it envisions an ideal which humanity can aspire to -- in thought, words and actions. Aram is mentioned in the ancient Thirukkural (1st-3rd century B.C), widely revered as the most influential work in Tamil. The Singapore Writers Festival investigates this common creed and how it can help one to navigate the trials and tribulations in an increasingly complex world.Get your Festival Pass today to enjoy more than 100 sessions with your favourite authors!
Three Kin by T.H.E Dance Company
Three Kin is leading contemporary dance group T.H.E Dance Company’s closing production for the 2017 season and part of the company’s annual headlining showcase of creations by acclaimed Singaporean and international guest choreographers.Performed by T.H.E’s full-time principal dancers, the triple bill features Kuik Swee Boon’s fresh new interpretation of Water Bloom (a NUS Arts Festival 2009 commission) and two new creations by resident South Korean choreographer Kim Jae Duk, and Spanish choreographer Dimo Kirilov Milev respectively.About the works and choreographersWater Bloom, by Kuik Swee Boon – In 2009, Water Bloom explored the fragile relationship between Man and nature using a striking visual: the suffocating promulgation of red sea reefs arising from man-made water pollution, disrupting the ocean’s food chain, and therefore Man’s food sources. Today, environmental awareness and activism, are hot-button topics, with consumer habits tied to an awareness of numerous factors: sustainability, eco-friendly practices, ethical labour conditions, and most significantly; a pro-conservation conscience that is living amidst the consequences of the Industrial Revolution and climate change. In the 2017 iteration, Water Bloom thematic message is more urgent than over. The dancers embody the urgency of these issues whilst conveying that there is no simple solution: change must happen: beginning from an individual consciousness, that ignites larger, joint and sustained efforts.Kim Jae Duk – Kim has choreographed a new work for T.H.E every year since 2011 (collaborative work RE:OK…BUT!; Hey Man; Present; collaborative work Organised Chaos; Mr. Sign; Equilibrium), promises a kinetic new piece that delivers the best of both worlds in music (original composition by Kim) and dance movement filled with power, wit and humour.Dimo Kirilov Milev – Former Spanish Compania Nacional de Danza principal dancer Dimo Kirilov first worked with T.H.E’s principal company in 2013, creating the well-received Collisions for the DiverCity – a work described by The Straits Times as “explor(ing) the complexity of modern human relationships… each duet possess(ing) its own distinct flavour coupled with brilliant execution”; and by the Flying Inkpot, “the dynamism, athleticism and aesthetics… were breathtaking. All the dancers played their roles with individuality, finesse and strong technique.” Kirilov had recently performed at the M1 CONTACT Festival in end June 2017, and continued in residency with T.H.E Dance Company until August – this first part of the new creation. He returns in November – December to continue working and for the premiere of the creation.Photo Credit by Bernie Ng
liTHE 2017 by T.H.E Second Company
The sixth iteration of T.H.E Second Company’s annual liTHE production spotlights the choreographic talents of Second Company’s alumnus, Anthea Seah, Goh Shou Yi, and Marcus Foo, three Singaporean artists whom have carved striking paths in our local contemporary dance scene and abroad. They create three brand new works for 21 dancers from T.H.E Second Company – our semi-professional youth wing that nurtures talented young dancers through performances, collaborations, residencies and professional-level training, whilst they juggle school and work life.liTHE 2017 is significant as it is held for the first time at SOTA Studio Theatre after past editions at the smaller black box in Goodman Arts Centre. It is our concerted effort to cultivate and programme homegrown talent on a larger scale, recognising that liTHE and T.H.E Second Company has a strong aspirational appeal to large student groups who dance for the CCA, clubs, or at commerical studios.About the ChoreographersAnthea Seah – A core dancer of T.H.E’s principal company since 2014, Seah danced with the Second Company whilst pursuing her engineering studies at Nanyang Technology University. Having switched midway to a dance degree at LASALLE and a full-time career with T.H.E, her versatility as an intelligent mover and choreographer has been showcased in T.H.E’s New Vision platform in 2016, and for productions by NTU’s Contempminated dance group.Goh Shou Yi – Having trained at Purchase College – SUNY and currently based in Singapore, Goh’s latest collaborative work with Japanese artist Kubota Mai premiered at the Esplanade under the M1 CONTACT 2017 this June. He has also collaborated across disciplines, working with Toy Factory as choreographer for its February 2017 production, PRISM.Marcus Foo – A recent Master’s graduate of the London Contemporary Dance School, Japan-based Foo is closely involved with projects in Singapore including an outdoor site-specific new creation for the Dance In Situ series, held at Bedok in June 2017 and performed by indepdendent members of Singapore’s dance community.Photo Credit by Bernie Ng
