ELLE Inspires with Jessica Cox
Join us and be inspired by Jessica Cox!

Jessica Cox is not your average pilot, she is the world's first armless pilot.

The 34-year-old, who was born with a rare non-genetic birth defect that left her without arms, has never let her disability hold her back. She can do almost anything with her feet; including flying an airplane.

"Disability" isn't a word in her dictionary. Instead, she considers herself "differently-abled". Despite being born without arms, she has achieved much more with her feet than what most people would in their lives - like earn a black belt in Taekwondo, play the piano, and drive a car.

This September, join us as Jessica shares her incredible story about not letting any obstacles stand in the way of achieving dreams. Feel empowered by the way she constantly smashes society's expectations of her, and be inspired by her infectious zest for life.

"Think outside the shoe", is Jessica's motto. This is her story.

About Jessica Cox:

When Jessica was born in 1983 in Sierra Vista, Arizona, she was, by all means, a healthy baby. There was just one main difference: she had no arms. Doctors were befuddled, and there were doubts about whether she could ever be able to lead a “normal” life.

But she knows. With the love and support of her family, Jessica’s not only learned to live her life with her feet, she’s also achieved things that most people only dream of – like earn a black belt in Taekwando, and fly an airplane. “Think outside the shoe”, is her life motto.

Today, Jessica travels the world as a motivational speaker, and hopes to inspire people to stop looking at themselves as “disabled”, and to start considering themselves to be “differently-abled”.

  • Guinness World Record: The First Armless Person in the World Ever to Have Obtained a Pilot’s License
  • Taekwondo Black Belt: First Black Belt at aged 14
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at University of Arizona
