27th EUROPEAN UNION FILM FESTIVAL
Synopsis

The European Union Film Festival (EUFF), Singapore's longest running foreign film festival, returns for its 27th edition. The EUFF, known for showcasing the best of contemporary European cinema, will run from May 11 to May 21, 2017. All films will be screened at National Gallery Singapore for the first time.

The 27th EUFF will be presenting 27 films from 27 countries across Europe with Germany as the featured country this year. The festival opens with Goodbye Berlin (Tschick) (2016), a coming-of-age comedy drama directed by acclaimed award-winning filmmaker Fatih Akin. The 27th EUFF lineup also features book to film adaptations such as Belgium’s feature film, Problemski Hotel (2015) and the Dutch drama, Beyond Sleep (2016). The lives of some of Europe’s personalities are the central focus of some of the festival films. Finland will be presenting The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (2016), winner of the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival 2016. Switzerland presents the critically acclaimed documentary, The Chinese Lives of Uli Sigg (2016), about the prominent art collector Uli Sigg.

The festival will continue EUFF's long tradition of collaborating with a Singaporean film school. Partnering for the third time with Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Film and Media Studies, the EUFF will present short films by students and alumni of the school alongside the official film selection.

The festival's Title Sponsor is German European School Singapore.
